Event Description
The existence of sophons meant the Trisolaran civilization could monitor everything on Earth — all meetings, documents, communications, and electronic data were completely transparent to them. The only domain the Trisolarans could not penetrate was the inner workings of the human mind. Based on this insight, the Planetary Defense Council creatively proposed the Wallfacer Project.
The four Wallfacers were granted virtually unlimited authority — they could mobilize resources from the United Nations and national governments without explaining their true intentions. Their actions could diverge entirely from their stated purposes, and any seemingly absurd orders had to be carried out. Correspondingly, the Trisolaran civilization designated a "Wallbreaker" for each Wallfacer — an ETO member tasked specifically with deducing and exposing the Wallfacer's true plan.
The first three Wallfacers (Tyler, Rey Diaz, and Hines) had their plans either exposed by their Wallbreakers or failed due to inherent flaws. Only Luo Ji — seemingly the least likely Wallfacer to succeed — through deep contemplation of cosmic sociology, derived the Dark Forest principle and ultimately used it to establish strategic deterrence against the Trisolaran civilization. The Wallfacer Project was a stroke of genius-level strategic innovation by humanity under extreme disadvantage, leveraging the opacity of human thought as a unique advantage over the Trisolarans.
