Event Description
Mike Evans was an American oil industry heir who was also a radical environmentalist and misanthrope. Through his contact with Ye Wenjie, he learned of the Trisolaran civilization's existence, a discovery that resonated with his extreme disillusionment with human civilization. Evans believed human civilization was destroying Earth's ecosystem and that only the intervention of an external force could save the planet.
Using his global business network and vast wealth, Evans secretly established the Earth-Trisolaris Organization. The ETO's membership was extremely diverse — idealists disillusioned with humanity like Ye Wenjie (the Redemptionist faction), reformers who hoped the Trisolaran civilization would help improve human society (the Survivalist faction), and extremists who harbored intense hatred for humanity and wished the Trisolarans to annihilate the species entirely (the Adventist faction). Evans also used communication equipment aboard his flagship Judgment Day to establish a direct communication channel with the Trisolaran civilization, secretly receiving Trisolaran directives and technical information. The ETO conducted sabotage operations worldwide, obstructing human technological development and preparing for the Trisolaran fleet's arrival. Though revered as spiritual leader, Ye Wenjie grew uneasy with the increasingly extreme tendencies within the ETO — she had originally hoped only to introduce a better civilization, not to destroy humanity.
