Gray Star is the more distant planet in the system, with relatively harsh surface conditions and a desolate gray appearance. While Gray Star does not carry the same narrative significance as Blue Star, its presence completes the picture of this star system.
Yun Tianming's Gift

This gift traversed hundreds of light-years and several centuries. When Cheng Xin received the news, she was deeply moved — amid the darkness and cruelty of the universe, this star represented a pure emotion transcending the boundaries of civilization and species. Through his actions, Yun Tianming proved that even in exile among an alien civilization, his feelings for Cheng Xin had never changed.
On a deeper narrative level, this gift also functions as foreshadowing. A Pocket Universe is a miniature independent universe created by advanced civilizations, possessing its own independent physical laws and time flow rate. Pocket Universe 647 was created by Yun Tianming (likely with the aid of Trisolaran technology) as a final refuge for Cheng Xin. Upon entering, Cheng Xin and Guan Yifan find a carefully designed small world — with pastoral landscapes, a house, and everything needed to sustain life.
The time flow rate inside the pocket universe differs from the grand universe. Time spent inside the pocket universe may correspond to millions or even billions of years in the grand universe. This makes pocket universes a unique form of "time travel" — not returning to the past, but skipping across the future.
Universal Reset and the Final Choice
After living in Pocket Universe 647 for a period, Cheng Xin and Guan Yifan receive a message from the grand universe: the universe is approaching its reset.
The "reset" refers to the universe transitioning from expansion to contraction, ultimately collapsing back into a singularity. But this reset has a prerequisite — the grand universe's total mass must reach a critical value. The problem is that pocket universes created by countless civilizations have "stolen" vast amounts of mass from the grand universe. If this mass is not returned, the grand universe may never complete its reset and rebirth — it would drift toward a cold death of eternal expansion.
An appeal from the "Return Movement" calls upon all inhabitants of pocket universes to return their mass. This is a moral choice: keeping one's pocket universe means safety and comfort, but also means permanently stealing mass from the grand universe, potentially preventing its rebirth.
Cheng Xin ultimately chooses to return Pocket Universe 647's mass to the grand universe, keeping only a small ecological sphere as a gift and memory for the new universe.
